Ender's Game 2

Driving around town a few months back I noticed a bumper sticker which said
The Enemy's Gate is Down
I turned to my wife and said "That's odd. I wonder what that means. Is the enemy not paying attention to their defenses? Or are they having a tailgate party?"

"That's a quote from 'Ender's Game'," she replied.

"What? I don't remember that at all."

"Really? That's a important phrase in the book. Any fan of 'Ender's Game' should be familiar with it."

"Okay. It doesn't make sense to me."

Last month, though, as I was re-reading the book, that phrase really stood out to me. Like a sore thumb. It is actually a critical perceptive shift for Ender which he passes on to his platoon.

Whoops.

Those 3-D games never made sense to me before, which may explain why the phrase never stuck for me.
